Last we checked in with the Bears they were coming off a 3 in 3 weekend where they got 2 wins and only lost once. Since then they have played 2 games and have lost both in a shootout. Wednesday night the Norfolk Admirals snapped a 7 game losing streak to the Bears by winning 3-2 in a shootout in Hershey. Last night in Philly the division leading Phantoms needed a shootout to get past the Bears 4-3.
Scott Barney scored twice and Joe Motzko scored one as the Bears twice rallied from one goal down to get a point in the standings. It was Barney's first 2 goal game of the season and he now has 11 goals on the year. He has scored 3 goals in the last 4 games which is hopefully a sign of things to come this year. The Bears could really use his scoring.
Ryan Flinn, acquired from Springfield on Wednesday for Stephen Werner, played his first game for Hershey last night. He brings an additional physical presence to the team to help guys like Louis Robitaille. The deal for Flinn was a loan-loan deal between the teams.
Tyler Sloan played his first game since December 28.
Kris Beech was picked up by Washington earlier this week and has been placed on waivers to join Hershey. If he clears waivers, he will once again be a Bear at noon today. Keep your fingers crossed, he was a big part of the Calder Cup team from a couple years ago and will be a big bonus for the Bears this year as well. But the Columbus Blue Jackets are reportedly interested in him and may sign him before he clears. We will have to wait and see.
Tonight the Bears host the Binghamton Senators at 7pm in the Giant Center. It is Capitals night and the Bears will be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with the money going to charity. Former coach Bruce Boudreau will be on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck tonight.
