Tonight the Bears welcome the Philadelphia Phantoms to the Giant Center for the second to last time ever in regulation hockey. After this season the Phantoms will cease to exist in Philadelphia and there is no official word on what will happen to the franchise.
These teams are at opposite ends of the playoff picture currently with the Bears leading the division and the Phantoms trailing 4th place Binghamton by 4 points. They are also going in slightly different directions right now. Hershey has lost 5 of their last 6 while the Phantoms have won 4 of 6.
The interesting part of those streaks is the scoring from both teams. The Bears have scored 14 goals in their 6 games while the Phantoms have only scored 18, which includes 7 in last nights game. So that shows that even though Hershey isn't scoring a lot of goals right now they can still win with sound defense and goaltending.
Hershey has done well against Philly this season though. The two teams have faced off against each other 9 times already this year with Hershey winning 6 of them. They lost 2 in shootouts and have only lost 1 game to the Phantoms in regulation this year.
In those 9 games Hershey is averaging over 4.5 goals per game while Philly is only averaging just over 2.5 goals against Hershey. But most of the games have been competitive and Hershey is not playing to their full potential of late.
Hopefully Hershey can reverse what has ailed them the past couple weeks and get a much needed win tonight on home ice.
