I did not get to watch or listen to Sunday's game against Bridgeport so I will not even begin to critique the team's performance in that game.
But I will say that the problems are not getting better and the longer the problems last the more serious they become.
There are many out there that don't feel that it is time to panic or make any wholesale changes. They believe that the team is okay and it is still too early. That there is plenty of time for the team to regain their form and everything will be okay.
But let me throw this out there...
What if the current play IS their form? What if the beginning of the season was the above average play and this is more what the team is capable of?
I don't believe that is the case but you can't sit around and do nothing in case it is.
Coach Woods has begun to make some small changes by moving Chris Bourque to the top line and Alexandre Giroux to the second line for now. At least that is how it is at practice right now. There is no commitment to stick with those lines for the weekend.
I think that is a start but if that doesn't work then what?
And what about the goaltending? With the exception of last Friday at Albany Simeon Varlamov hasn't been much more impressive than Daren Machesney.
Personally I think it is time to stop talking about loan with Michal Neuvirth and call him up to the Bears. Give him a chance to prove himself up in the A. While he is up send Cheese down and let him get some confidence back.
But no matter what they do they can't just stand around and wait. By Thanksgiving the Bears will be more than a quarter into their season. There isn't a lot of time to wait and watch to see what changes. It's time to MAKE changes.
